Frequently Asked Questions

A few things couples often ask befroe booking.

Before You Book

How do we know if you're the right celebrant for us?

The best way is to have a chat. Whether it's over coffee, a wine, or a video call, it's a chance for us to get to know each other, talk through your plans, and make sure we're a good fit. There's absolutely no pressure.

How far in advance should we book?

As soon as you have your date. Popular spring and summer weekends can book up well in advance, but if your date is available, I'd love to help.

Where are you based?

I'm based in the Waikato and regularly officiate weddings throughout Hamilton and the wider Waikato region. If you're getting married somewhere else, just let me know. I'm always happy to travel.

Do you travel?

Absolutely. Travel within Hamilton is included, and weddings further afield may have a small travel fee. I'll always let you know about any additional costs before you book.

What happens after we book?

Once your booking form and booking fee are received, your date is officially locked in. From there, I'll guide you through the whole process, from planning your ceremony to sorting the boring-but-important legal bits.

Your Ceremony

Can we write our own vows?

Definitely. You can write your own vows, use something a little more traditional, or mix the two. If you're not sure where to start, I'll give you plenty of guidance and examples.

Can we include family, friends, or children in the ceremony?

Absolutely. Whether it's a reading, involving your children, a ring warming, or something completely different, we can find a way to include the people who matter most.

How long does the ceremony last?

A Signature Ceremony is usually around 20 to 30 minutes. A Simple "I Do" Ceremony is generally around 10 to 15 minutes.

Can we personalise our ceremony?

Of course. Every Signature Ceremony is created around your story. The Simple "I Do" is designed to stay short and relaxed, but there's still room to add a few personal touches.

Can we choose our own readings and music?

Absolutely. You're welcome to include readings, poems, music, or anything else that feels meaningful to you both.

The Legal Bits

Do we need a marriage licence?

Yes. Before your wedding, you'll need to apply for a New Zealand marriage licence. Don't worry, I'll remind you when it's time and guide you through what needs to be done.

When should we apply for our marriage licence?

I recommend applying around one month before your wedding. Your marriage licence is valid for three months once it has been issued.

What do we need to make our marriage legal?

You'll need a valid marriage licence, two witnesses, and the required legal wording included in your ceremony. I'll make sure everything that needs to happen is covered.

Do you register our marriage?

After your ceremony, I'll complete the required paperwork and send it through to Births, Deaths and Marriages, so you don't need to worry about sending anything yourselves.

Packages and Pricing

What's the difference between the two ceremony packages?

The Signature Ceremony is fully personalised and written around your story. The Simple "I Do" is shorter and covers everything needed to make your marriage legal, with room for a few personal touches.

Is the Simple "I Do" the same as a registry ceremony?

It is similar in length and simplicity, but offers more flexibility around your date, time, location, and personal touches. I am an independent marriage celebrant rather than an appointed registry celebrant.

Do you offer MC services?

Yes. My MC Services are available as an add-on to either ceremony package or can be booked separately.

Are there any additional costs?

Travel outside Hamilton may incur a small travel fee. If any additional costs apply, I'll always let you know before you book. No surprise extras.

How much is the booking fee?

A non-refundable booking fee is required to secure your date. It comes off your final balance, and once it's paid, your date is officially locked in.

Still have questions?

Just flick me a message. I'd love to hear about your plans and answer anything I haven't covered.
